Reviews

Below are some reviews from audience members and adjudicators from our run at Hollywood Fringe in June 2025.

“This show is an absolutely hilarious and genius concept. This farce was a nonstop, high-energy rollercoaster of identities mistaken and absolutely nothing going according to plan. I loved every chaotic moment. 10/10 would recommend!!!”

“A super clever conceit executed with precision. Strong writing from Kris, savvy direction from Casey, and strong performances from the entire cast make these some of the most entertaining 75 minutes you’ll spend at Fringe.”

"A brilliant concept executed masterfully. This play was absolutely hilarious and had me engaged the entire time period the actors are so beautifully choreographed and it was clear that they had immense passion for every single moment of the play, executing the nuanced movement and dialogue with absolute precision. I promise that you’ll have incredible time viewing this play and I feel that it’s a must see for this Fringe Festival."

This show is 100% delightful. This hilarious, fresh farce is a perfect blend of precise physical comedy and larger than life characters you can’t help but love. The writing, direction, lighting, fight choreography, and performances are all exceptional – I would see it three more times in a heartbeat.”

“Poignant, hilarious, and creative. Wonderful job of establishing the 'rules' of this production with the inverted lighting from the start – Our entry point is a silly farce that ends up that seems like it’s all going to be played for laughs until the theme starts to creep its way into the story. Only in retrospect, we see that every choice is intentional, playing into its thoughtful message about navigating sexual identity, despite being in a committed relationship. It’s these character arcs that bring meaning to the play, which is driven home by the zippy directing and honest performances. I should mention the impressive set dressing, which clearly took an organized team to load in/out during the small window. This team goes all out on this show and holds nothing back. Definitely go see it!”

“Probably the strongest and most unique sexual discovery piece I’ve seen in a while. MORE BISEXUAL THEATRE PLEASE. Innovative concept and direction. Super clean physical chaos. Specific, complicated characters who were fighting for what they wanted. And Hilarious! This farce is a hit. The play felt lived-in, the plot was surprising, and I left the theatre with of sense of 'hell yeah, this is what it’s all about'. Not a weak element or link in the chain. Bravo!”

“What Happens in the Dark is a MUST SEE show! Prepare for a wild ride of delicately calculated chaos and entertainment as the story unfolds one dark and stormy night. Writer Kris Buxton-Dean, has built a world of playful dynamics that captures the hearts, eyes, and wonder of a truly delighted audience. The physically demanding and hilariously choreographed clown play requires the cast to give it their all, and they really do. The love they bring to their respective roles transcends the stage and leaves the audience rooting for their continued success. Don’t get left in the dark – SEE THIS SHOW!”
